Serrada |
Serrada - 1200 m a.s.l.
At 5 km from Folgaria, Serrada is a town that boasts a long tradition of tourism. Even at the end of the 19th century it was a holiday destination for the first visitors to the mountains and between the First and Second World Wars it became a resort for the rich middle classes of Rovereto. In this period the futurist painter Fortunato Depero adopted Serrada and every year the Carnevale d’autore is celebrated in his honour. Serrada is a summer and winter holiday spot: it has 6 hotels, 2 residences and a number of private apartments. Sights to see : the Santa Cristina church (18th C); the Fortress Dosso del Sommo (Werk Serrada), impressive witness to World War I; the ruins of the old chapel Santa Cristina, the refuge F.lli Filzi.
Futurist Carnival Between 1930 and 1942 Fortunato Depero, the famous futurist painter from Rovereto, chose to spend his holidays at Serrada. The artist dedicated some of his best works to this lovely town, in particular a tapestry to which he gave the title ‘Serrada’. Since 1986 Serrada has dedicated the Carnevale d'Autore to this great artist. It is indeed a special carnival, a futurist carnival! Futurist are the costumes worn by the volunteers who set up the event, futurist the scenes that decorate the main square and town centre, futurist the masks and floats taking part in the parade that winds through the streets. |
